The first thing we have to set straight is the fact that there are basically two types of electronic air purifiers. One type is called precipitators the other type is called polarized media.
Precipitators use metal plates to attract the particles and are washable. One of the problems with this type is they need to be washed regularly and tend to generate ozone when they start to get dirty. We have already discussed ozone. www.epa.gov
Polarized media simply charges the pad turning it into a dust magnet. Particles are naturally negatively charged, so putting a positive charge on the filter pad makes this air cleaner filter very efficient. Since there are no metal on metal connections, no ozone will ever be generated. An excellent indoor pollution solution.
Do not confuse polarized media with permanent electrostatic air purifiers. Permanent electrostatic is just that. An electrical charge is induced into the media at the factory and the charge is supposed to last the life of the filter. The polarized media uses an electronic power head to continually charge the filter(media). Generally, permanent electrostatic air purifiers do not get any better than 10% efficiency. That means 90% of the particles are getting through!
This is where I introduce you to the electronic air filter that meets all of your criteria.

Electro Breeze Electrostatic Air Purifiers

Your purchase includes the Electro Breeze air cleaner panel in your size, a UV germicidal lamp, mounting plate assembly, monitor and five replacement pads. Change your first pad after one month of use, then change out every 2-4 months, thereafter.
The kill zone of the germicidal lamp is within 2 inches of the lamp. A kill rate of 99% is achieved at the distance. The effective zone is up to 24 inches from the lamp. Within that distance, a microorganism may not be killed, but single-pass exposure to the ultraviolet energy (within 24 inches of the lamp), will disturb its DNA (reproductive code) and stop if from reproducing and infecting us with disease or illness.
The air in your home, along with all of the airborne contaminants, passes through your furnace several times an hour. This creates an accumulative effect on microorganism kill and DNA disruption when an Electro Breeze UV System unit is properly installed in your furnace ductwork.
Shadowing Effect
Many microorganisms travel through the air. Carried by the air stream or by attaching themselves to water droplets, they are intermixed with particles in the air. This can create a shadowing effect when the microorganism passes by an ultraviolet lamp, protecting it from the lamp's rays. Therefore, it is best to also have a high efficiency electronic filter in your furnace to control the particulate in the air, thus preventing or minimizing the shadowing effect.
It should also be noted, that even though a microorganism is destroyed, or its DNA disrupted, preventing it from reproducing and infecting, it can still be an allergen and must be collected by allergy air filters that can collect sub-micron particles.
We recommend the use of a Polarized Media Electronic Air Cleaner such as Electro Breeze Air Cleaner for this purpose. A Polarized Media Air Cleaner will also remove other allergens from the air, including destroyed or disrupted microorganisms.
Electro-Breeze 1in electronic air purifier panel with the duct mounted UV light is your economical and effective fresh air purifier for homes with central heat and/or air conditioning. The whole house air purifiers remove particles down to 0.3 microns and kills live viruses and bacteria.
By incorporating the UV germicidal lamp into the system, Electro-Breeze is considered a UV air purifier system. This ultraviolet air purifier is going to address all of your indoor air pollution problems.
Odors are carried on particles. Getting rid of particles is no problem for most filters, but odors also generate from bacteria. You can smell mold as soon as you walk into a room. The Electro-Breeze ultraviolet air purifier attacks mold and bacteria as well!
The ease of installation of the home air cleaner and ultraviolet light makes this a perfect fresh air purifier for new construction as well as retrofit to older homes. Ease of maintenance and affordability make this combination just right for any age or income group.
Superior Filtration TechnologyThe reasons why Electro-Breeze whole house air purifiers work so much better compared to other allergy air filters is because they take advantage of three scientific filtration principles combined in one product to filter air and trap unwanted and harmful particulate.
The three scientific principles at work in the Electro-Breeze home air cleaner are Impingement, Polarization and Agglomeration. Virtually every other filtration media type filters use only impingement. The combination and benefits of combining these three principles is explained below:
#1) Impingement
Impingement is the process that all media filters use to trap dust. Simply stated, in order to trap particles the impingement process relies on media being placed in the path of oncoming airborne particles and striking the particles as it flows by in an effort to stop it.
The degree of effectiveness of this method depends on the amount of material contained in the media filter placed in the path of these oncoming airborne particulate.
Commercial filters using this type of process cover the entire range of efficiencies. The finer and more dense the media used the greater the efficiency. High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters have high efficiencies along with very dense fiber packing, however the tradeoff associated with these filters is a reduced volume of filtered air - all things being equal.
Impingement type filters always have a built-in compromise between airflow and efficiency. The greater the efficiency of the filter, the lower the volume of air that is filtered. The greater the flow of air the lower the efficiency except in the case of Electro-Breeze air cleaners, which also use polarization and agglomeration to trap particulate.
Electro-Breezes unique induced polarized media air cleaners are the exception to this principle. Electro-Breeze air cleaners are not subject to compromise between airflow and high efficiency, and they meet all the demands for increased airflow and high efficiency.
#2) Polarization
The second major scientific principle used in engineering Electro-Breeze air cleaners is polarization. Just like charging a nail to make it into a magnet, the filter media is charged and becomes a dust magnet.
With tens of thousands of charged fiber strands in each filter the efficiency of this polarized process is greatly enhanced. In addition, as each particle attaches itself to the fiber strands it in turn becomes part of the collection process thereby increasing the effectiveness of the filter as it loads.
Any particles that may escape through the influence of the polarized filter media travel through the system without any residual charge and are then filtered out on subsequent passes.

Airborne particles as explained above enter the Electro-Breeze filter and are polarized by the induced static charge and take on characteristics of millions of tiny magnets. As a result four distinct possibilities can occur:
1) These magnetized particles can attach themselves to the charged fiber strands in the filter.
2) They can strike or become attached to each other and form larger particles. (Agglomeration)
3) These larger (Agglomerated) particles can become attached to the fiber filter strands.
4) The particles may pass through the filter and AGGLOMERATE and be captured on subsequent passes.
The combination of induced electrostatic polarization along with the process of agglomeration results in filtration that compares with a hospital grade HEPA. A HEPA air cleaner filter can, by definition, remove at least 99.97% of 0.3-micrometer particles. The Electro-Breeze electronic air purifier initially eliminates 97% down to 0.3-micrometer particles then gets more efficient as it loads!
Whenever you add higher filtration performance to your furnace system, you will lose airflow. The result is higher utility bills because your system is working harder to deliver the air. The Electro-Breeze electronic air filter technology allows you to get all this performance without losing airflow!
How UV Germicidal Rays Purify the Air

Air Purification with Ultraviolet Light
The quietest, most effective air purification
system on the planet!
UV Light is naturally occurring!
Ultraviolet Germicidal Light is a trusted air purifying
method used in hospitals nationwide, and ultraviolet energy is the suns rays that
nature uses outdoors to purify the air. Ultraviolet lamps enable the Electro Breeze
UV air purifier to produce the natural germicidal rays that kill germs and control
allergens.
Forced Air Furnaces Distribute Pollutants
Your furnace provides a perfect environment
for the growth and broadcast of bio-aerosols, toxins and gases that cause the unhealthy
air conditions found in most homes. Because a furnace is the collection point for
most of the re-circulated air in a building, it is the best place for installing
an Electro Breeze UV System.
Governmental Agencies Acknowledge and Identify the Problem
The Environmental Protection Agency has found that indoor air is always 2 to 5 times, and sometimes 100 times worse than the worst outdoor air. You may not be able to see, smell or touch it, but this air pollution is impacting the health of your family. The American Medical Association reports that 1/3 of our national health bill is directly attributable to indoor air pollution.
What Are Bio-aerosols?
Mold is probably the most common bio-aerosol. Germs are also known as bio-aerosols or pathogens. Bio-aerosols are airborne pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, mold and mildew, (micro-organisms), which cause infectious disease. They can cause allergic reactions, asthma and other respiratory ailments.
Indoor air pollution also includes VOC's, (volatile organic compounds), and other toxins which are gases. They can trigger allergies, various health problems, and may cause odors.
Basic Facts and Research Regarding Ultraviolet Energy or UV Light
The Electro Breeze UV System design is based on accumulated research data and actual experience from Westinghouse Electric Corporation Lamp Division's research laboratories. All ultraviolet energy is measured in nanometers and the wavelengths are shorter than visible light. Therefore UV energy is invisible to the human eye. The wavelengths of ultraviolet generated by the Electro Breeze UV System germicidal lamp are in the 254 nm. range, making them lethal to the bio-aerosols described above.
Mutant strains of microbial have become resistant to the antibiotics formerly used to control them. Deaths from infectious diseases caused by these germs is now the third leading cause of death in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

According to Westinghouse, a single UV lamp will provide a kill rate of 70% to 85% at 1500 cfm with this lamp positioning.
The germs that escape on the first exposure will be hit again and again until they are destroyed as the airflow carries them through the UV radiation.
The kill rate achieved by other manufacturers lamps may be more or less than Westinghouse
